Frances Baer

Baer, Frances.; LensWork Publishing

Frances Baer lived and worked in the inner circles of the Monterey Peninsula photography scene in the peak years. Wife to Morley Baer and a painter herself, she saw and knew the art scene well because she lived it. We listened to Frances, then 85 years old, in her Monterey home in August 2002. These are not dry, footnoted histories -- her stories are ones that inspire and entertain -- like the best stories, they are often anecdotes of mythic proportions about the great photographers in her life : Edward Weston, Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams and Morley Baer. You can hear the playful sound of her voice, the purposeful pause, and the knowing twinkle in her eyes. Frances Baer passed away in August 2003.
